In the Environmental Life Cycle Business Model Canvas, the “Materials” is seen as an extension of “Key Resources” in the classic Business Model Canvas. All the resources required to create the product or service are listed here in order to be aware of the environmental impact.

For example, manufacturers buy and process large quantities of physical resources. Service companies, on the other hand, generally use resources in the form of building infrastructure and information technology. These service companies also consume significant physical resources in the form of assets such as computers, vehicles and office buildings, which also need to be listed.

For comprehensive planning and implementation, it is important to take a holistic view along the entire life cycle in order to achieve environmental sustainability goals. This also includes analyzing the environmental impact of production activities.
